Welcome back to school! I look forward to working with all of your children. Our new school is beautiful and I hope all of you make plans to visit. We are very proud of it!! FES has a "NO BULLYING POLICY". Each student will be introduced to this policy in the coming weeks. There are 3 levels of bullying identified at our school: Level 1 (examples--teasing, giving dirty looks, insulting remarks), Level 2 (examples--stealing, scratching, hitting) and Level 3 (examples--destroying school/personal property, practicing extortion). In the coming weeks, students will continue to learn more about these levels and the consequences. Bullying is taken very seriously around FES and we intend to enforce this policy.
Here are a few ways to help FES be a better school. SAVE BOX TOPS! These box tops are located on many foods you purchase. Because Mrs. Sealy our media specialist will not be receiving any library funds, these box tops will be like money. Most of them are worth 5 cents, some even 10 cents. Also, please save computer ink cartridges and old cell phones. If you want to donate a book in someone's honor, please talk to Mrs. Sealy about that also. The last couple of years with the help of CSI money and grants from FEEF, I have been able to purchase character books for my teachers. I give each teacher the same book to read to their class. I provide activities and a study guide that goes along with each book. For example, the third grade teachers shared the book My Mouth is a Volcano with their students. Each teacher was able to present the book and use the follow up activities. Every student is taught the same concept because every teacher is provided with a book. If anyone would like to sponsor this program, even purchasing one book I would greatly appreciate it. My library needs to continue to grow. I have a list of books on my wish list and would be happy to share it with you. The curriculum that I use along with all other schools is called TOO GOOD FOR DRUGS produced by the Mendez Foundation. This program is a sequential program that begins in KG and is completed in middle school. In addition to TOO GOOD FOR DRUGS, a bullying program that has been developed by the school counselors at the Fairhope schools (except for high school), will be used. Our school continues to collect beverage tabs for Ronald McDonald House. When your child collects these tabs and brings them to school, he(she) is growing power!!! There is a container in the office and one located outside my office. Thanks for your help!
If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached at 928-8400, email, or by contacting the office. *************************************************************** Did you know that our school has a BST (Building Solving Team) that helps teachers with students who may be struggling with school problems? The BST is composed of an administrator, the counselor, the reading coach, and the student's teacher. This team works together to review the student's level of achievement and to make suggestions of accommodations that the homeroom teacher may use to help the student to become more successful in school. Our team members are Mark Doherty( assistant principal), Diana Yeager(reading coach), Diana Wolchina (math teacher), and myself. If you think that your child may have a learning problem and want to have him tested, your child would need to come to us before testing. Most of the time, it is not necessary to go to the testing process. Isn't that great news? We have used this process for about ten years and it really works!
