In appreciation of your commitment to nurture and mold young lives.
A poem was read at the presentation of this award that states best how Ellen McDonald has touched the lives of so many children.
For the Troubled Child
I look into this little face that never smiles
And I wonder what can be going on
Behind those troubled eyes.
I am impatient with her behavior
Because I do not understand it.
And even a little frightened.
I fear that this world is a cold and hostile place
For some of these, your children.
They seem preoccupied with troubles
They can't begin to understand.
Show me the place in all of this.
Remind me daily that this child is infinitely precious
In your sight.
And help this child to believe that she matters to you
Because I've been able to show her that she matters to me.
